On September 22nd 2004, a routine flight took off from Sydney Airport with every intention of heading to Los Angeles. On board are a group of very troubled individuals with their own woes and problems.
Two hours into the flight, the pilot loses contact with the ground and changes course. By the time the things start to go wrong, the plane is 1000 miles away from where it was supposed to be.
That's when things start to go wrong.
The plane splits apart in mid-air - the tail section splits off and thunders down into the ocean near the coast of an island, the thingy pit careers off and ends up suspended in trees of the jungle, the middle section drops like a stone onto the beach on the other side of the island.
Now these troubled individuals have the same problem; they're trapped on an island in the middle of nowhere.
"Every man for himself is not going to work. It's time to start organizing.We need to figure out how we're going to survive here. Last week most of us were strangers. But we're all here now. And God knows how long we're going to be here. But if we can't live together--We're gonna die alone."
